VARIATION DESCRIPTION
|
It is a first day cover issued on the discovery of nickel. It shows a worker & a handful of nickel. The cancellation depicts a nickel symbol. In August 1883 construction crews while cutting trees on a rail road noticed a rusty looking patch of rock. It was copper.
They not only discovered copper but stumbled into the largest nickel deposit.
In 1983 the Canadian post commemorated 100th anniversary of discovery of nickel.
