The stamp shows rough & oval cut Opal. The name is derived from Sanskrit word for 'stone'. The special characteristic of this is it's play-of-color, a display of rainbow-like hues which, especially in rounded cut forms, changes with angles of observation.

The stamps on the envelope depicts different Austrailian gemstones. There is also a cover picture that shows mining equipments in the background and it is signed by the designer of the stamps and cover, J. Mason.
The post mark cancellation is done by Philatelic Bureau, Melbourne.
